Sustainability in the green belt

Greenhill Cottage in Lower Whitley provides an example of smart development within the green belt. With four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a triple detached garage and a landscaped pond, the new design was some two to three times larger than the existing property. Yet the impact on the surrounding environment is minimized via innovation.
By setting the height of the eves at ground floor ceiling level for most of the property, the design maximises the use of space by placing all the bedrooms in the roof. The volume of the property is therefore limited, as is its impact on the green belt. The house also benefits from solar thermal panels, creating enough green energy to generate hot water, a sustainable drainage system, and a subterranean gas tank.
